Project Overview
Not Alone is a short branded film I directed and shot for Vezeeta’s Breast Cancer Awareness campaign. The story follows a woman who learns she has second-grade breast cancer, a moment that freezes time.
As the doctor delivers the news, the world around her fades. Fear, confusion, and isolation take over as she drifts into a space of imagined pain and uncertainty. Just when she feels entirely alone, her sister reaches out and holds her hand, grounding her again, a quiet reminder that support can bring us back from the edge.
The film closes with the line:
“No woman should go through this alone.”Throughout October, Vezeeta offered free mammograms with every Shamel subscription, emphasizing early detection and community care.
The Heart Behind the Story
The main character in Not Alone is a real breast cancer patient, Nahed, sharing her own story through this visual retelling.
Before creating the treatment, I spoke with my grandmother, who had also battled breast cancer, asking her about the emotions she experienced, from the initial diagnosis to recovery. I also read dozens of women’s personal testimonies and watched survivor interviews to ensure the story reflected truth, not dramatization.
The film was based on a treatment I wrote and conceptualized myself, then directed and shot independently, ensuring every frame felt authentic, intimate, and emotionally grounded.
